NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Father Ryan (Nashville, Tenn.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to four before the final whistle blew on a 24-20 victory over
Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.).
After taking the lead on a
Billy Nipp touchdown run in the first quarter, the Fightin' Irish were up 14-0 at the half.
Father Ryan saw its 14-point halftime lead fall to 10 entering the fourth.
The loss came as a surprise for the Eagles, who entered the game ranked No. 3 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Tennessee, while FR was ranked No. 56. Brentwood Academy came into the game with four wins out of the past seven games between the two teams.
The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which BA took, 31-10.
The defeat comes as a step back for Brentwood Academy, which notched a 45-7 victory over Liberty Tech Magnet in its previous outing. The loss snapped Brentwood Academy's two-game winning streak.
In a non-conference game next week Father Ryan (2-1) takes on Hillwood, and Brentwood Academy (2-1) will go up against St. Xavier also in a non-conference game.
