Video: Kyle Muller highlights - Dallas Jesuit (TX)Dallas Jesuit (Texas) senior
Kyle Muller is at the top of the national home run leaders list, but lately he's been breaking records as a pitcher.
Over the course of three games, Muller recorded 36 consecutive outs by strikeout. The streak began in the final inning of a 5-1 win over defending Class 5A state champion Prosper on March 11 when Muller struck out the final two batters of the game. In his next start, a five-inning 14-0 win over Sunset (Dallas) on March 18, Muller struck out the final 15 batters he faced in a no-hitter. The first batter of the game reached base on an error.
The Texas commit struck out the first 18 batters he faced in a game against Irving on Monday. The next batter got a base hit, but Muller struck out the next batter for the 36th-straight out by strikeout. Muller then induced a groundball that turned into an inning-ending double play to break the streak.
Muller finished the game with 21 strikeouts in a 3-0 win that went eight innings. For the season, Muller is 4-0 with a 0.42 ERA and 66 strikeouts.
The 33 straight strikeouts of consecutive batters over the course of the Sunset and Irving game also breaks the national record of 22 in a row, first set by Jim Peterson of Sonora (Calif.) in 1973 and tied by Gunner Baker of Carlisle (Price, Texas) in 2013. There is no national record for consecutive outs by strikeout.
Muller is also the national leader in home runs, according to the MaxPreps leaderboards, with 12.
