In a continuation of their fierce rivalry,
Mt. Carmel (New Orleans) defeated
St. Mary's Dominican (New Orleans), 3-1, to win the Division I state volleyball championship at Ponchartrain Center in Kenner.
Mt. Carmel won its seventh state championship in beating Dominican for the fifth time in six games this season. Dominican lost for the fourth time in as many state final appearances, including a 2000 setback to Mt. Carmel.
Setter Ashley Lala, who earned Outstanding Player recognition, contributed 30 assists and 27 digs for Mt. Carmel. Kaylynn Genemaras had a team-high 17 kills. Senior middle blocker Taylor Reuther led Dominican with 20 kills.

St. Thomas More (Lafayette) won its first state championship, 3-1, in beating top-seeded
Assumption (Napoleonville) in Class II. The first two games had 42 lead changes. Half of St. Thomas More junior Shellie Landry's 19 kills came during that time.
In a rematch of last year's Division III state title match,
Notre Dame (Crowley) exacted revenge in beating
Ursuline Academy (New Orleans), 3-1. Notre Dame also won the state title in 2007. Notre Dame's Mayme Cook earned Outstanding Player honors with 14 kills and 28 assists.

Catholic (New Iberia) overcame a two-set deficit to defeat
Academy of the Sacred Heart (New Orleans), 3-2, in winning the Division IV state title. After losing 25-19, 25-18, Catholic rebounded for victories of 25-21, 25-21, 25-13 in its first five-set match of the season.
Metairie Park Country Day repeated as Division V state champion with its 3-1 victory over
Episcopal of Acadiana (Cade).
