4A Region 8 recap September 10, 2013
Cole Casper of Maple Mountain ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Region 8 this season against North Sanpete last week. Casper ran for 69 yards on the play and finished with 122 on the day as his team topped the Hawks.
Fans got a thrill when Porter Gustin and Zack Zobell connected against Juab. The connection went for 83 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Kobe Wilson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Spanish Fork beat Payson. The 6-foot-0 junior.
Kayden Connor was the best wideout in the league this week as Wasatch beat Ogden. Connor tallied 6 receptions for 136 yards.
Gustin threw for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 12-22 with 1 interceptions.
Casper was the best running back in 4A Region 8 this week. Teammate Jaren Hall added to the ground attack by rushing for 33 yards.
Gustin put up the best numbers through the air as Salem Hills topped the Wasps. Gustin's favorite target this week was Zobell, who caught 4 passes for 139 yards.
The Skyhawks' Gustin and Zobell have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-5 quarterback Gustin has thrown for 928 yards this season, while Zobell has 16 catches for 422 yards. Jason Money from the Dons leads the league in rushing with 271 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Timpview takes on Salem Hills. As it stands, the Thunderbirds are in fourth, while Joel Higginson's team is in second.
Provo and Mountain View played the most contested game in the league this week, with Provo eventually emerging with a 26-23 victory. Viliami Iongi threw for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 114 yards in the win.
