The nation’s second longest winning streak was snapped Friday night when Wayne Hills (Wayne, N.J.) was defeated by St. Joseph Regional (Montvale), 17-15.
Wayne Hills owned a 55-game winning streak dating back six seasons. Prior to the contest against St. Joseph Regional, the Patriots' last loss came at the hands of Ramapo, 24-20, on Oct. 29, 2004.
Smith Center (Kan.) had the country’s longest winning streak at 71 games entering the weekend.
The national record for longest winning streak is 151 games, set by De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) over the course of two decades. Paulsboro is the only New Jersey team to notch a longer streak, winning 63 consecutive games in the 1990s.
During its run of success, Wayne Hills never played a non-public school. Conference realignment in North Jersey during the offseason paved the way for the team’s matchup with the Green Knights, who are the defending Non-Public Group III state champions.
