Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) didn't let up as Saturday's game came to a close, scoring 21 in the fourth quarter to seal a 51-13 victory over St. Petersburg (Fla.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Joshua Meyer in the first quarter, the Hurricanes were up 16-6 at the half.
Manatee grew its lead to 17 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Trevon Walters touchdown run.
With the win the Bradenton school extended its winning streak to eight games. Manatee defeated Palmetto 35-14 last week.
The Green Devils came in giving up 8.0 points per game this season. St. Petersburg struggled against Manatee's offense, who entered the game scoring 36.9 points per game. Manatee had given up an average of 8.9 points prior to the contest. The 13 points that SP ended with were well below its average of 30.7 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for St. Petersburg, who notched a 35-7 victory over Seminole in its previous outing. The loss ended St. Petersburg's three-game winning streak.
In a non-conference game next week St. Petersburg (5-2) takes on Dixie Hollins, and Manatee (8-0) will go up against University also in a non-conference game.
