For immediate releaseSports public address announcers and those who want to learn more about announcing can attend any of three football P.A. announcers’ clinics that have been scheduled for California by the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers (NASPAA).
The first clinic will be at
De La Salle High School in Concord on Saturday, July 10 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Host clinician will be Gary Williams, Stadium Announcer for the Oakland Raiders.
On August 7, the CIF San Diego Section will host a clinic at the San Diego Depart County of Education from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Bruce Binkowski, Retired Stadium Announcer for the San Diego Chargers is the clinician.
The CIF Southern Section will host a clinic on August 14 from 9:00 a.m. - noon at its office in Los Alamitos. The clinician is Chuck White, UCLA P.A. announcer.
The clinics are for P.A. announcers who announce junior high/middle school, high school, college, and youth football. Substitute announcers, as well as high school and college students, who would like to learn how to announce or who are announcing, are encouraged to register. The registration fee if $65 for adults and $35 for students.
The clinic will address the announcer’s role, P.A. announcing expectations, Do’s and Don’ts of announcing football, how to handle emergency situations, as well as scriptwriting and working with a spotter. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in voice training and announcing exercises. A football official will review new rules changes, officials’ hand signals and ways that officials and P.A. announcers can better work together.
“Sports public address announcers should enhance the spectators’ enjoyment of the game without inserting themselves,” commented Brad Rumble, NASPAA Executive Director. “P.A announcers can also be a force for good sportsmanship and public safety.”
