Oklahoma and Texas college football teams have a long-standing heated rivalry, and this year's Cotton Bowl is an anticipated matchup between the Sooners and the Aggies. Surprisingly enough, the two states played only 27 high school games this season, a relatively low number considering their proximity and population.
The mythical Cotton Bowl high school matchup between Jenks and DeSoto thus allows football fans in both states to claim final bragging rights for the 2012 season.

DeSoto (14-1) held down the top rank in Texas for most of the season and advanced through the Class 5A playoffs with an impressive 42-14 win over Coppell and a 49-45 all-time thriller against Carroll before eventually falling 51-36 to Allen.
Jenks, meanwhile, lost its first two games of the season, including a 52-27 defeat at the hands of DeSoto. However the Trojans avenged their other loss with a 41-10 victory over Union (Tulsa) in the Class 6A state semifinals and they have a chance to avenge the other loss with the Cotton Bowl matchup.
Jenks has one of Oklahoma's top rushers in
Trey'Vonne Barr'e, who ran for 2,237 yards and 30 touchdown during the season. Quarterback
Kyle Alexander also proved to be a capable leader, throwing for 1,828 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Trojans also have one of the state's top overall prospects in wide receiver
Jordan Smallwood.
DeSoto had two of the top skill players in Texas,
Desmon White and
Dontre Wilson. White threw for 3,521 yards and 34 touchdowns and also rushed for 1,335 yards and 12 scores. Meanwhile Wilson added 1,895 yards rushing and 48 touchdowns. Wilson was a productive receiver as well, catching 37 passes for 740 yards.
