2A-1 Region I District 2 recap October 1, 2013
Denver City moved up to 140 from 190 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region I District 2. The Mustangs were able to move up by topping Post 33-9.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Denver City beat the Antelopes 33-9. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Lamesa's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Roger Martin threw for 206 yards and Jahlahni Edwards had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Kendrick Hunter contributed 97 yards. Jaime Banuelos helped Lamesa's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 46 yards.
Hunter was the best running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 97 yards as the Tornadoes fell to Greenwood. Teammate Brandon Lozano added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
Lamesa's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Martin has thrown for 701 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Edwards has 19 catches for 193 yards.
Slaton led 2A-1 Region I District 2 in scoring this week after putting up 34 points on Dimmitt.
