Desert Hills scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Hurricane, 46-38. At the time, the Tigers were ranked 11th in the state, while the Thunder were 30th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Snow Canyon, who took down 18th ranked Dixie, 28-21.
Kody Wilstead and Pano Tiatia gave Pine View a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Wilstead threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while Tiatia ran for 159 yards. Teammate Prentiss Miller added to the ground attack by rushing for 140 yards.
Kyle Hansen was the best wideout in 3A Region 9 this week as the Flyers fell to the Warriors. Hansen tallied one reception for 84 yards. Drew Batchelor helped Dixie's passing attack out by catching five balls for 43 yards.
Blake Barney provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Dixie lost to Snow Canyon. He completed 16 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 59 yards.
Blaine Monkres' team's Barney and Batchelor have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Barney has thrown for 2149 yards this season, while Batchelor, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 35 catches for 647 yards. The Panthers' Miller leads the league in rushing yards with 1803.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Hurricane takes on Canyon View. As it stands, Chris Homer's team is in first, while the Falcons are in seventh.
Barney and Hansen provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Jay Graft's team. The connection was good for 84 yards, the longest such play in 3A Region 9 this season.
