Ballard (Louisville, Ky.) has run away from the rest of the nation's top home run hitters with an explosive week at the plate.
Rated as the nation's No. 1 outfield prospect and a sure first-round draft pick in the June's Major League Baseball draft, Adell belted five home runs over two games to move from a tie for first place to a convincing lead in the national home run race. The five-homer binge gives him 21 for the season.
Adell went 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs in a 12-5 win over Oldham County on May 2. He followed that performance with a 3-for-3 effort the next day that included three home runs and six more RBIs in an 8-4 win over Kentucky Country Day.
His 21 round trippers rank fourth-best in state history for a single season. The Kentucky state record is 29 by Shon Walker of Harrison County in 1992.
Ballard (22-8) has six more regular-season games before heading into the postseason.
