Archibshop Mitty will be taking part in a new Central Coast Section format that will make the chase for the CIF State Bowl Games a little different this season.

The 2014 CIF State Championship Bowl Games will have a little bit different look this year, particularly in the Southern Section and San Diego Section, where realignment has given the qualifying divisions a different look.
For Division I, the Pac 5 champion will still qualify for the Division I game along with the West Valley champion. The Inland champion, which previously qualified for Division I, will now qualify for Division II along with the champion from the Central, Eastern, Southwest, Southeast and Western divisions.

In another change, the Open Division RegionalPlayoffs have been eliminated, which would havehelped Centennial last season.

The Northern Division champion will qualify for the Division III bowl, along with the champions from the Mid-Valley, the East Valley, the Northwest and the Southern.
In San Diego, there is no longer an Open league, however there is still an Open Division for the playoffs. The top eight teams in Division I will be selected to play in the Open Division while the remaining teams qualify for the San Diego Section Division I playoffs. For the bowl games, the Open Division champion will qualify for the Division I bowl game and the Division I champion will qualify for the Division II bowl game.
Confused yet?
For the Northern California Regionals, the Sac-Joaquin Section made a slight adjustment. Teams are not categorized in divisions until the playoffs, however the largest 16 schools will qualify for the section's Division I playoff and the next 16 largest teams will qualify for Division II, and so on. Previously, the Sac-Joaquin Section produced brackets for just Divisions I thru IV using this method. Now the section has extended this method to include Divisions V and VI.
In the Northern Section, playoff divisions have been reclassified to more closely match the state divisions. So the old Division I is now Division II and the old Division II is now Division III. Divisions IV and V will also qualify for the Division III bowl game (or Division IV if the enrollment is under 500).
For the first release of the MaxPreps California Bowl Rankings, we have had to assume a few things. For the teams from the San Diego Section, the top eight ranked teams by the computer rankings are considered for the Division I bowl game and the remaining teams in the division will be considered for the Division II bowl rankings.
Likewise in the Central Coast Section, the top eight ranked teams will be considered for the Division I bowl game and the next group will be considered for Division II. Division III and IV teams will be considered based on last year's playoff bracket until more information is available.
For the Sac-Joaquin Section, teams will be ranked in the bowl rankings based on the section playoff bracket they competed in last year until more information is available.
In other words, a lot can change by the time the postseason comes around.
