Burrillville dropped their record down to 12-8 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 9-5 to the Chariho Chargers. The Broncos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 15-10.
Burrillville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Njoes, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was AJ Escalera, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Chariho, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Chariho's side, Adam Carpenter and Gavyn Pepler made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Carpenter struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Pepler tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Carpenter went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Pepler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Pepler a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gavin Apice was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Christian Mancini was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Burrillville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chariho, they will venture away from home to square off against North Providence at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
