A huge night from quarterback
Alfred Ramsby propelled No. 16
Colerain (Cincinnati, Ohio) over rival
St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio), 35-14, in the opening round of the OHSAA Region IV, Division 1 playoffs on Saturday night.
Ramsby rushed for two touchdowns in the first half and threw for another as the Cardinals moved to 11-0 and are one step closer to capturing their first state title since 2004.
The scoring began when Ramsby found the end zone on a 5-yard touchdown run to give Colerain a 7-0 lead.
Both teams struggled to score again until late in the second quarter, when Ramsby connected with
Tre Hudson for a 22-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.
A big defensive stop gave Colerain the ball back with little time remaining the first half. On first down, Ramsby rumbled for 65 yards. With less than 20 seconds remaining, he plunged into the end zone for a 1-yard score to give Colerain a comfortable 21-0 lead heading into the locker rooms.
St. Xavier scored on its first possession of the second half, but Ramsby once again led Colerain down the field. A 16-yard completion to Cook set up a 1-yard touchdown score by
Jackson Sorn to make it 28-7 with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Dejuan Lang returned an interception for a touchdown to seal the deal for Colerain, setting up a second round match up against Elder next weekend.
