The UC Davis commit played the first four games of the 2014 season with McClymonds after transferring from San Ramon Valley. He had received clearance by the Oakland Section to play before the season, but in an about face, the Oakland Unified School District ruled him ineligible Oct. 17 while investigating his residence.
Ultimately he was barred for the season and McClymonds, which went 12-0 on the field, had to forfeit the four games he played in.
The Warriors also were not select to play in the CIF small-school regional playoffs.
The strong 6-foot-4, 220-pound Davidson (check him out shedding would-be sackers in highlights above), the No. 53 drop-back passer in the country according to
247Sports, had said after the season he planned to return to McClymonds. But last week he was back at San Ramon Valley, the school he attended for his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Davidson said Saturday that until his eligibility for the 2015 season was determined, he couldn't comment on his transfer back to the Wolves.
McClymonds coach Michael Peters said he didn't learn of Davidson's return to SRV until Thursday.
"It's going to be tough. We'll definitely miss him," Peters said. "He stuck it out here through all that went on last year. He's still part of the Mack family. He's under a lot of pressure.
"Kevin and his family are great people and I only hope the best for the kid. The kids here liked and accepted Kevin a lot. They took the good with the bad and understood it wasn't his fault. Everyone here thought he followed the rules. He was cleared to play. We just had to roll with it."
If Davidson's new transfer is approved and he's cleared by the CIF, he will miss the first five games for the Wolves.
He's definitely been approved to play in 2016 for UC Davis.
"Loving the situation I have at UC Davis right now," Davidson texted Saturday. "Seems like the best fit for what I'm looking for. Great history of NFL quarterbacks."
Davidson, who threw for 1,117 yards and 20 touchdowns in four games last year, recently had conversation with Seahawks standout Marshawn Lynch about Davis coach Ron Gould, a former Cal assistant. Gould coached Lynch, an Oakland native, at Cal.
"He said he is a real dude that will make the program and myself extremely successful," Davidson texted.
