The MaxPreps state rankings speculated that Sherando might have a hard time against Salem, and the rankings were right on the money. Sherando had a rough outing against Salem, losing 49 - 14. It was a playoff game, so the defeat was no doubt an especially dispiriting one for Sherando.
Sherando had a mediocre defensive performance in the first half, giving up 35 points. That put it down 35 - 0. As for the offense, it stepped up its game in the second half with 14 points, but the better effort was too little too late.
The defeat brought Sherando down to 12-3. The win got Salem up to 12-2.
