Trinity (Euless, Texas) scored 27 points in the first quarter to secure a big 51-0 victory over Nimitz (Irving, Texas) on Saturday.
The Trojans scored on a touchdown run by
Homer Babcock, a
Kenneth Gonzales touchdown run, a touchdown run by Babcock and a touchdown pass by
Matt Hawkins to
Raymond Bolden in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a Babcock touchdown run in the first quarter, Trinity led 44-0 at the half.
THS expanded its lead to 51 points entering the fourth quarter. The Euless school's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
John Fitch.
A 27-point first quarter set the table for the Trojans, which coasted the rest of the way for the victory.
Babcock stood out for Trinity in the win. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
THS entered the contest giving up 24.6 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Vikings well below their season average of 26.8 points scored per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Trinity came away with a 49-9 victory.
The loss comes after Nimitz defeated Turner 35-0 last week. With the win THS extended its winning streak to three games.
Nimitz (2-4) will play a 5A Region I District 6 game against MacArthur next week, while Trinity (4-2) will take on Bell also in a 5A Region I District 6 game.
