Head coach: Cedric Lane
Can anybody stop the Dragons? Wenonah has won three state titles in a row and piled up 93 wins during that reign of terror. Senior guard
Justin Coleman – an Alabama commit – is back to lead the charge for four titles after posting 20.3 points per game as a junior.
2. Carver (Montgomery)2012-13 record: 26-2
Head coach: James Jackson
Stunned in the 6A semifinals last season, the Wolverines aim to return to the championship form they enjoyed in 2012. The trio of
Brandon Austin (6-5, Jr., G, Alabama commit),
Brandon Murphy (6-7, Sr., F, Indiana State) and
Demetrius Houston (6-6, Sr., G/F, Mississippi State) gives them the firepower necessary to make a run.
3. Hazel Green2012-13 record: 23-9
Head coach: Todd Jeffers
Senior forward
Lewis Sullivan (6-7) was the state's 6A Player of the Year last season and an absolute steal for Alabama-Birmingham.
4. Mountain Brook (Birmingham)2012-13 record: 30-6, Class 6A state champions
Head coach: Bucky McMillan
The Spartans won their last seven games of the season a year ago – including a 21-point win over Sparkman in the final – en route to a state title. While Mountain Brook took some hits via graduation, the trio of
Patrick Keim (6-2, Sr., G),
Tawarren "Gman" Grant (6-2, Jr., G) and
Ben Shearer (6-0, Sr., G) keeps expectations high.
5. Madison Academy2012-13 record: 23-12
Head coach: Andy Blackston
The Mustangs should take a significant step forward in year two of the
Josh Langford era. Langford, a 6-5 sophomore guard, is one of the nation's top Class of 2016 prospects and put up 23.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as a freshman.
