The 2nd stop on the 1st Annual MaxPreps Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard was once again in the Magnolia State. This time at Brandon High School. The Brandon Bulldogs finished ranked No. 6 in the MaxPreps Freeman rankings and, under the tutelage of Head Coach Celeste Bramlett, they captured their first ever 6A State Championship.
Thursday, April 5th started off as a normal day at Brandon High School, albeit the possible threat of a tornado. However, on this day, the Brandon girl's soccer team was being honored and recognized with a prestigious national award. Brandon students flooded into the school gymnasium and waited anxiously for the trophy presentation to start. The Bulldog cheerleaders formed a tunnel and the school band came marching in pumping up the crowd. Then to a thunderous applause, the girl's soccer players entered the celebration. Once the soccer team took their seats front and center, the Brandon Cheerleading Squad put on a sensational routine to show their appreciation to the girl's soccer team for bringing a state championship to their school. Shortly thereafter, it was time for the trophy presentation to begin. Athletic Director Brad Peterson addressed the student body and then introduced MaxPreps representative Tonya Grey. Tonya spoke about what an amazing accomplishment it was for the Brandon girl's soccer team to be ranked #6 overall in the entire country from a pool of 15,000 teams! Tonya then turned the microphone over to Mississippi Army National Guard Sergeant First Class Anthony Kaylor. SFC Kaylor was very proud to be awarding the trophy to Brandon High School and touched on all their hard work and dedication in earning the 6A state championship. SFC Kaylor then presented Coach Bramlett with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Bramlett was elated to receive the prestigious award, and I must also say her "thank you speech" would rival one at the Academy Awards. Well done, Coach!
The community and Brandon High School were very welcoming and the Pep Rally they hosted was a phenomenal conclusion to a fantastic season. Congratulations to Coach Bramlett and the Bulldogs and we hope to see you on next year's tour!
