High Desert recap Oct. 23, 2012
Matthew Moore and Kyle Hall provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Rosamond. The longest such play in High Desert this season, the connection resulted in 97 yards.
Kern Valley moved up to 675 from 710 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Broncs were able to make move up by beating California City 40-14.
Desert's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Moore threw for 216 and three touchdowns and Hall had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Valdez chipped in 165 yards. Chad Gleason helped Desert's passing attack out by catching two balls for 47 yards.
Austin Dones made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Scorpions topped the Roadrunners. The junior recorded one fumble.
Thanks to the talents of Moore and Valdez Desert has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Moore leads the league in passing with 1387 yards, while Valdez has rushed for 897 yards this season. The Ravens' Antonio Day leads the league in receiving yards with 418 on 23 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Kern Valley takes on second place Bishop. Last week, Kern Valley bested California City, while Bishop beat Frazier Mountain.
Ben Goffinet's team extended the longest winning streak in High Desert this week by beating Daniel Williford's team, 40-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Broncs.
