Division III: Oaks Christian 27, Cardinal Newman 20 (OT)
Oaks Christian (15-0) won its 46th-straight game and the first state title in California in 79 years by holding off Cardinal Newman (13-2), 27-20, in overtime.
The game opened a day-long tripleheader at the CIF State Championship Bowl Games.
Cardinal Newman ended Modesto Central Catholic's 61-game winning streak earlier this season, and was hoping to make history once again Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson by pulling off an upset against Oaks Christian.
Marshall Jones provided the game-winner for the Lions, running in from seven yards out in overtime. Jones, headed to USC, finished the day with 156 all-purpose yards and a pair of scores.
Notre Dame-bound quarterback Jimmy Clausen didn't have the send-off he was likely hoping for - completing 11 of 22 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown - but finished his high school career unbeaten as a starter.
Running back Brian Hutton was the workhorse for Cardinal Newman, accumulating 96 yards on 30 carries, pushing his season total on the ground over 1,800 yards.
Division II: Orange Lutheran 42, Palo Alto 28
Quarterback Aaron Corp accounted for all six Orange Lutheran (14-1) scores, throwing for four touchdowns and running for two more, as the Lancers overpowered Palo Alto (12-2), 42-28, in the Division II CIF state championship game.
Corp, headed to USC, hit Boise State-bound receiver Austin Pettis for three, first-half touchdown passes to give Orange Lutheran a comfortable, 28-7 lead at halftime. Corp finished with 208 yards through the air and another 136 on the ground.
The Lancers' largest lead came early in the fourth quarter at 42-14 after a Corp's second touchdown run.
Mike Scott led the Vikings with a pair of touchdown receptions in the loss.
Palo Alto became the sixth team rated among the top 25 in MaxPreps' California rankings that Orange Lutheran has defeated this season, joining Long Beach Poly (No. 4), Edison (5), Santa Margarita (8), Mater Dei (15), and San Clemente (25). The Vikings entered the contest at No. 19.
The Lancers improved their record to 36-4 over the past three seasons, a stretch that includes a pair of section titles and now a state title.
Division I: Canyon 27, De La Salle 13
Canyon entered the CIF State Championship Bowl Games as the only two-loss team in the six-school event, and walked away with one of the most stunning wins in California this season.
Using a pair of touchdown runs by All-State running back J.J. DiLuigi, the Cowboys shocked De La Salle, 27-13, ending the Spartans' 21-game win streak and any hope for another mythical national championship.
Canyon took a 20-7 lead into halftime, only to see De La Salle cut the lead to single digits in the third quarter on a touchdown reception by John Hendershott.
But the Cowboys, who played arguably the toughest schedule in the state this season, showed their grit by holding off the Spartan rally, then adding insurance with a short run by DiLuigi with under a minute remaining.
