However, he raised his performance to an even higher level during a 54-6 rout.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder completed 22-of-25 passes for 404 yards and eight touchdowns. He did it all in the first half and did not return to the lineup, because the Beetdiggers led 54-0 at intermission.
According to the National High School Sports Record Book, he now shares the national record with three others who also have thrown eight touchdown passes in one half. The previous Utah record of seven touchdown passes was shared by four players.
His season totals are 234 completions on 353 attempts for 3,399 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also has rushed 103 times for 464 yards and four touchdowns.
"He’s really efficient," coach Eric Kjar told MaxPreps. "We knew there would be a lot of things open. He really took advantage. He’s a really smart kid. He’s a great player, but he also works really hard.
"He has those intangible characteristics that make a great player. We have a really young line and he gets popped a lot. But he’s unwavering and never gets flustered. He’s really improved since last year. He’s grown two inches and put on around 15 pounds."
Concerning college, Kjar revealed that Hart has a lot of interest, but hasn’t had an official offer yet. I’m surprised because he had a good junior year with around 3,200 yards. He’s had six touchdown passes at least three times in his career."
Boelter ties state record
Another standout Utah quarterback, Adam Boelter, tied a state record by accounting for 10 total touchdowns as West Jordan routed Payson, 67-34.
The 5-9, 140-pound junior completed 22-of-33 passes for 476 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for three additional scores.
The Utah record of 10 total touchdowns was set in 1919.
