BRADENTON, Fla. -
Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) put an additional 14 points on the board on top of its 48-point lead going into the fourth quarter to beat out Palmetto (Fla.) 62-0.
The Hurricanes were up 41-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
Brodrick Yancy touchdown run in the first quarter.
Manatee expanded its lead to 48 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS's lone score in the quarter came on a
Trevon Walters touchdown run.
The loss snapped the Tigers' 7-game winning streak.
The Bradenton school's standout player in the win was
Marquel Hines. The junior wide receiver ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
Led by
Derrick Calloway, the Hurricanes went into the matchup giving up only 15.3 points per game. Palmetto came in surrendering 8.9 points per game this season. PHS struggled against Manatee, which came in averaging 48.6 points per game.
MHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 29-26.
The defeat comes as a step back for Palmetto, which notched a 42-0 victory over Hardee in its previous outing.
Manatee (8-0) goes up against Sarasota in a 7A District 10 game matchup next week, while Palmetto (7-1) locks horns with Southeast in a 5A District 10 game.
