PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – After four days of action at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic, Monday night's final at Rancho Mirage High School is set.
Capital Christian (Sacramento, Calif.) will meet
Jackson (Mill Creek, Wash.) in an 8:40 p.m. tip.
Live scoring will be available at MaxPreps.com and the
NFHS Network will stream the championship and third place game beginning at 7 p.m.
Capital Christian reached the final with a win over defending champion
Westchester (Los Angeles) in the semifinals and nationally-ranked
Etiwanda (Calif.) in the quarters.
The Cougars (14-1) are led by
Uchenna Iroegbu (6-0, Sr., G) and Michigan signee
D.J. Wilson (6-9, Sr., F). Iroegbu erupted for 29 points in the semis while Wilson added 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Capital will be without the services of another starter, however.
Nifae Lealao, a 6-6, 280-pound post man and Stanford football commitment, left mid-tournament to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Game in Texas.
Jackson's path to the final was made possible by an overtime buzzer beater Saturday night against
Long Beach Poly (Calif.) in the second semifinal. The Timberwolves (5-0) – who could be the first non-California team to win the event – also have wins over
Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) and
Columbia Christian (Portland, Ore.) in Palm Springs.
University of Portland signee
Jason Todd (6-5, Sr., G/F) and
Dan Kingma (5-11, Sr., G) are both averaging over 20 points per game for Jackson this season. Todd is also grabbing over 14 rebounds per game in three tournament outings.
