MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Winter Springs Bears have officially been named to the 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring girls volleyball.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the MaxPreps National Rankings. For volleyball, only 10 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 20,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Bears ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
Winter Springs swept past DeLand, Spruce Creek, West Orange and Manatee in their impressive playoff run to play Jupiter in the state finals. Last season the Bears lost in the 7A finals, but on Nov. 14 the team claimed the
2015 FHSAA 8A State title with a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-13) over the Warriors. This is the first volleyball title for Winter Springs.
The Bears finished their season with a record of 30-2 and a 16-game winning streak. The team dominated its opponents with an overall set record of 82-8 and 27 shutout wins.
In the end, the Winter Springs Bears were ranked No. 13 nationally, No. 2 in Florida, No. 1 in Class 8A and No. 7 in the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25. The team was also ranked No. 1 in Region 1 District 2 with a district record of 6-0.
These incredible season achievements have earned Winter Springs an invitation to the 6th Annual Volleyball Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the Winter Springs team, head coach Kim Vach, students and fans on Friday, Jan. 8 at 1:45 p.m. during the pep rally in the gym.
