Video: Pitcher catches line drive barehandedJoe Standley was the most productive baseball hitter in New Mexico this year,
according to the MaxPreps New Mexico stat leaderboards. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior from Hope Christian (Albuquerque) was No. 1 in four major categories.
A left-handed first baseman, Standley topped the charts in batting average (28-for-46, .609), slugging percentage (1.260), on-base percentage (.750) and tied for first in home runs (8).
Also a pitcher, Standley ranked No. 4 in the state with 86 strikeouts.
The No. 1 pitcher was Carlsbad junior Trevor Rogers. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound junior will be back to haunt New Mexico hitters for another year after pacing the state with 106 strikeouts and eight victories (against one loss). He yielded just three earned runs in 57 2/3 innings.
Rogers was instrumental in helping Carlsbad to a 25-6 record and the Class 6A state championship. He threw over 140 pitches during the quarterfinal game and pitched five innings of the finale just two days later.
