Peninsula - Bay recap November 5, 2013
Andrew Segre of Sacred Heart Prep ran for the longest rushing play in Peninsula - Bay this season against Sequoia last week. Segre's team bested the Cherokee as he sprinted for 72 yards on the play and finished with 128 in all.
Terra Nova moved up to 76 from 104 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Menlo-Atherton 57-27.
JR Hardy made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sacred Heart Prep beat Sequoia. The 6-foot-0 junior nabbed 2 interceptions.
Jack Heneghan threw for 391 yards and 7 touchdowns. He went 27-50 with 1 interception.
Domenic Ortisi was the best receiver in the league this week as Terra Nova beat the Bears. Ortisi tallied 15 receptions for 115 yards. Jaylen Jones helped Terra Nova's passing attack out by catching 13 balls for 80 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Jones. The Terra Nova star has 51 catches for 918 yards.
The top two teams in Peninsula - Bay will face off this week when first place Terra Nova takes on second place Sacred Heart Prep. Last week, Bill Gray's team defeated Menlo-Atherton, while Pete Lavorato's team bested Robert Poulos' team.
Jones of the the Tigers' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 82 receiving yards in this week's game against the Gators to get there. So far this year, he has acheived 51 catches for 918 yards.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Sacred Heart Prep takes on Terra Nova. The Gators have allowed 44 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 137. Sacred Heart Prep allowed 3 points last week as it beat the Cherokee.
Terra Nova extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sione Taufoou's team, 57-27. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Tigers.
