MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Wise (Upper Marlboro, Md.) Pumas have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 12th year honoring football.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For football, only 50 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 17,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Pumas ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Friday, Dec. 9 head coach DaLawn Parrish and the Pumas capped their second-straight, undefeated
MPSSAA Class 4A state championship season with a 42-7 rout over the Quince Orchard Cougars. This is the school's third football state title in the last five years, and the second title game victory over Quince Orchard with a previous title game win in 2012.
Senior quarterback Jabari Laws completed 15-of-18 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns to lead Wise to the 4A state championship. As a team, the Pumas outperformed Quince Orchard and combined for 422 total yards compared to the Cougars' 247.
The Pumas' perfect season extends their winning streak to 28 games.
In 14 games, the Wise football team outscored its opponents 631 to 69, and posted eight shutout wins. At the end of this season the repeat champions, out of the Prince George's County Conference, finished highly ranked by MaxPreps —
No.1 in Class 4A,
No.7 in the state and
No.121 in the nation.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Wise Pumas an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the football team, coaching staff, students and fans on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. during halftime of the boys basketball game in the gym.
