Video: MaxPreps Football Player of the Year Watch ListBru McCoy, DJ Uiagalelei and Garrett Wilson lead the list of 10 players selected. There's still a lot of football left in 2018, but 10 players have elevated their game and are on the right track to be named the MaxPreps National Football Player of the Year.
The winner of this award will join the likes of
Kyler Murray,
Tate Martell and
JT Daniels, just to name a few.
Usually quarterbacks lead the way when it comes to leading the list of players selected. Four of the last five MaxPreps National Player of the Year winners were gunslingers with the lone exception being in 2015 when former 5-star defensive tackle
Derrick Brown of Lanier (Sugar Hill, Ga.) took home the award.
Only two of the 10 selected on the first release of our Player of the Year Watch List are quarterbacks. The other eight selections include four running backs, three wide receivers and one athlete.
California and Texas take up half of the list and
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) is the lone school with multiple selections.
Putting up numbers against legit competition goes a long way in deciding who will be the National Player of the Year and winning also is a big-time factor. Eight of the 10 players selected are making an impact for a Top 25 team. The teams of the initial group of 10 are a combined 53-5 this year.
Watch the video above for the list of the 10 players selected.
