Playing on a Major League baseball field is something nearly every kid dreams about. For 50 of Colorado’s top high school seniors, that will become a reality.
The state’s top 50 senior baseball players were selected Monday by a panel of media (which included MaxPreps), coaches and professional scouts, to participate in the Colorado Rockies Top 50 Senior All-Star Game.
The players will be divided into 25-man teams at a later date before converging on Coors Field on June 14 to play after the Rockies’ game against the Seattle Mariners. That game is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
Highlighting the selections is the Rocky Mountain duo of Bryan Peters and Jacob Stewart. Peters, who has signed with Nebraska, and Stewart, who will play at Stanford, have led the Lobos to the past two Class 5A state championships. Rocky Mountain is the only unbeaten team remaining in the big-school double-elimination Championship Series that resumes Friday.

Cherry Creek, also among the 5A final four, had the most players selected overall with five – Alex Blackford, Alec Mielnicki, T.J. Shantz, Duncan Satherlie and Cory Keller.
While the majority of the players selected are from 5A programs, 3A schools were well-represented with eight selections. One 2A player, Trent Holvick, was picked. Holvick batted .656 this past season, the second-best average in the state regardless of classification.
Of note, players were selected at a primary position, but are eligible to play additional positions.
