Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) will face No. 14
Roswell (Ga.) in the Georgia Class AAAAAA title game next weekend, after each notched big semifinal victories on Friday night.
Colquitt County's offense overwhelmed a stout
Mill Creek (Hoschton) offense 52-31, thanks to six touchdown passes from quarterback
Chase Parrish.
Roswell earned a berth in the state finals thanks to a wild 30-26 victory over No. 7
Grayson (Loganville) thanks to a Hail Mary pass. A.J. Smith hauled in the pass with 11 seconds left to help Roswell pull out the improbable win.
For Roswell it will be the first trip to the state finals since 2006, when it defeated McEachern for the program's third state title.
The prohibitive favorite in the game will be Colquitt County, which will be playing in its third consecutive state finals. It fell to Norcross in 2013 but defeated Archer last fall.
For Colquitt County, a national title could be on the line. It is currently ranked No. 4 in the Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Its performance against Roswell could have it on the rise. Additionally, there figures to be some shifting among the teams ranked above it, with No. 1
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and No. 2
Centennial (Corona, Calif.) set to square off on Saturday night.
