Scouting report: With several expected contributors still playing football and the Broncos' first basketball game just a couple of weeks away, don't be surprised if it takes the defending champs a while to hit full stride. But once they do, watch out.
While Bush lost three starters, Ridley developed into one of the nation's hottest prospects over the summer after serving in a supporting role for the champs last year. He has attracted offers from the likes of Baylor, Georgetown, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas.
Travis Courtney, the coach's kid, is in the midst of a solid senior year under center for the Fort Bend Bush football team with more than 1,500 yards through the air and accounting for close to 20 touchdowns. He will resume his role as the starting point guard once the gridiron season comes to a close.
Six other letterwinners return, plus Ronnie Courtney has three talented freshmen expected to compete for a spot in the rotation in twins Donald and Ronald Monroe and Oubre.
Coach Courtney won't be in unfamiliar territory with a defending champion. He won state titles with T.J. Ford and Daniel Ewing at Willowridge in 2000 and 2001 before spending six seasons as head coach at Texas Southern University.
