If anyone questions the importance of high school football to teenagers, they need look no further than
Alex Wiman.
The senior wide receiver simply could not contain his emotions after making the game-winning 65-yard touchdown pass to
Wyatt Cooper on a double-pass trick play to give
Mason City (Iowa) a 19-15 victory over
Marshalltown (Iowa).
"I don't know where I learned to throw like that," Wiman said through a stream of tears. "That was unbelievable. That was an unbelievable catch by Wyatt."
According to Jared Patterson of the Globe Gazette, the touchdown came with just over a minute left and gave the Mohawks their first win of the season.
Wiman's reaction comes on the heels of the
inspirational post-game speech by Apollos Hester that took the country by storm last week.
"I'm never going to get to do this again." said Wiman, sobbing. "And that's how I wanted to go out. That was perfect."
