St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 24 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings, but was stunned by
Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio), 20-17. Archbishop Moeller was ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 3 in the Freeman Rankings for Ohio coming into the week.
The Fighting Crusaders led 7-3 at halftime, but the Bombers regained the lead on a field goal by
Matt Coghlin with under a minute left in the fourth. Archbishop Moeller finally took the lead for the win when Coghlin kicked a field goal with less than a minute remaining in the fifth quarter.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at four.
AM got revenge for last year's 35-21 loss to St. Xavier with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for St. Xavier, which notched a 15-6 victory over Indianapolis Cathedral in its previous outing. The loss broke St. Xavier's two-game winning streak.
Archbishop Moeller (5-0) will play a Greater Catholic - South game against La Salle next week, while St. Xavier (3-2) will take on Elder also in a Greater Catholic - South game.
