Denver City will look to defend their home turf on Friday against Alpine at 7:30 PM. Denver City are expected to win -- but not by much -- so they will need to come into the contest prepared for a fight.
Denver City had a rough outing against Pecos two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Denver City put the hurt on Littlefield with a sharp 41-14 victory. Sophomore Mario Sanchez, who rushed for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns, was a major factor in Denver City's success.
Meanwhile, Alpine might have drawn first blood against Fort Stockton last week, but it was Fort Stockton who got the last laugh. Alpine were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap, as they fell 21-27 to Fort Stockton. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Alpine were outplayed the rest of the way.
Denver City's win lifted them to 1-1 while Alpine's defeat dropped them down to 1-1. We'll find out if Denver City can add another positive mark to their record or if Alpine can shake off the defeat and take the spring out of Denver City's step.
