2A-2 Region I District 3 recap October 29, 2013
Michael Rollert and Andres Acevedo provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Reagan County. The connection was good for 70 yards, the longest such play in 2A-2 Region I District 3 this season.
Alpine scaled the state rankings by moving to 523 from 585 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bucks were able to move up by beating Stanton 41-17.
Evan Moore threw for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 11-15 with 1 interception.
Chance Campbell was a force in the backfield as Sonora defeated the Owls.
Jonathan Frost was the best wideout in the league this week as Alpine bested the Buffaloes. Frost racked up 4 receptions for 122 yards. Brandon Gilmore helped Alpine's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 60 yards.
Stacey Martin's team's Moore and Frost have formed a dream team this season, leading 2A-2 Region I District 3 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Moore has thrown for 1,151 yards this season, while Frost has 24 catches for 491 yards. Estevan Chavez from Stanton leads the league in rushing with 964 yards.
Abel Silvas of the the Bucks is just 44 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 108 carries Silvas has accumulated 956 yard this year.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Alpine takes on the Cranes. The Bucks' offense has racked up 305 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Crane has allowed only 76 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Naldo Esparza's team takes on Alpine. The Cranes are in first place, while the Bucks are in fourth place.
Crane extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Coahoma, 34-6. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
