Derrick Henry continues his assault on Ken Hall's national all-time rushing record.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior rushed for 455 yards and 5 touchdowns in just 35 carries as
Yulee (Fla.) beat West Nassua 56-30.
Henry, who
recently committed to Alabama, came into the night with 10,003 rushing yards. He now stands at 10,458 yards. The all-time record is 11,232, held by Texas legend Ken Hall.
Needing only 774 yards to tie Hall, Henry has two regular season games left and at least one playoff game.
Yulee (6-2) could make a deep playoff run, according to Joshua Wilson of
FloridaHSFootball.com.
"The way things look, Yulee has a strong chance to make it to the state semifinals which could be a possible matchup against defending Class 4A champion, Bolles," he told MaxPreps. "Right now, don't take Yulee lightly because they could easily be making a run that no one thought would ever happen."
A matchup with Bolles would be in the team's third playoff game, meaning Henry would have five games to accrue 775 yards.
At his current pace, he wouldn't break the record — he'd shatter it.
Henry has not rushed for fewer than 200 yards in a single game this year. He's averaging 328 yards per game; he topped out at over 500 yards against Jackson in September.
Henry is now the fifth-leading rusher all-time. He'll look to add to his totals next Friday in a game against Trinity Christian.
