Video: Three long TDs from Gary Bryant Jr.Watch the Centennial junior wide receiver haul in TD passes of 64, 70 and 50 yards on Friday.
Sometimes two helmets are better than one. In the case of No. 17
Centennial (Corona, Calif.), it was the helmets of two quarterbacks.
According to the
Press-Enterprise, the quarterback platoon of Ala Mikaele and Carter Freedland combined for 403 passing yards on Friday, including three long touchdown passes to junior wide receiver
Gary Bryant Jr. in a surprisingly lopsided 35-13 win over 10th-ranked and visiting
Chandler (Ariz.).
Bryant was everywhere with nine catches for a career high 265 yards. Two of his catches were short routes that he turned into long touchdowns.
Though Bryant and the quarterback tandem made the highlight reel, Centennial's defense was the real star.
With both teams averaging over 45 points per game a year ago, fireworks were expected, but instead defenses stood out at San Bernardino Valley College in Southern California.
Bryant caught touchdown passes covering 64, 70 and 50 yards, respectively, to give Centennial a 21-0 lead early in the third quarter and the Huskies coasted to the finish line. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound playmaker is regarded as a Top 150 prospect in the Class of 2020 by
247Sports and had over 800 yards receiving as a sophomore.
The loss snapped an 11-game win streak for Chandler (0-1), who had scored 50 points or more in eight of those contests.
