Paint Branch (10-1) has a real challenge coming up -- the hardest it has met all year. Both it and Howard (11-0) have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Friday at 4:00 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Paint Branch has seen its point totals steadily rise over the past three games, a trend the team will no doubt hope to continue.
Paint Branch went up against Perry Hall last week. With 22 points in the first half, Paint Branch started the game off on a good foot. That gave them a 22 - 14 advantage at the half. The offense kept at it in the second half and scored another 22. At the end of the day, Paint Branch walked away with a breezy 44 - 21 win.
As for Howard, its encounter with Oakland Mills two weeks ago was a 36-point stomp, but the result last week was anything but. Howard had just enough last game, edging out Sherwood 20 - 18. The outcome wasn't too surprising considering that Howard is 22 spots ahead in the MaxPreps state rankings, but it was certainly a bit tighter than anticipated.
While both teams are coming off of wins, only one will triumph this week. We'll find out soon enough who that will be.
