The games pit winners of 50 section champions throughout the state and the winners of games Friday and Saturday will meet for state bowl titles Dec. 15-16.
The CIF state commissioners picked the top two teams from the South and North, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and De La Salle (Concord), who will play for the Open Division championship Dec. 16 at Sacramento State University.
Mater Dei, the Southern Section Division I champion, is ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps, and De La Salle is No. 15. The two will renew a rivalry that took place in the late 1990s. The Monarchs and Spartans haven't played since 1999.
