The two teams were tied at eight heading into halftime.
Fairmont (Kettering, Ohio) took the lead indefinitely on a
JC Hategekimana touchdown run in the third quarter.
The result came as a big surprise as
Miamisburg (Ohio) came in ranked No. 101 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Ohio, while the Firebirds were ranked No. 241.
A 23-22 Fairmont victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Miamisburg defeated Bellbrook 56-3 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for FHS, which was coming off a 17-14 defeat at the hands of Archbishop Alter in its previous game.
In a non-conference game next week Miamisburg (1-1) takes on Franklin, and Fairmont (1-1) will go up against Springboro also in a non-conference game.
