Former Notre Dame commit Chris Martin has found a new home.
The Grandview (Aurora, Colo.) star linebacker/defensive end verbally committed to the University of California on Monday morning, according to Grandview’s athletic director, Jon Hoerl.
As a junior, Martin verbally committed to the Fighting Irish on National Signing Day in 2009. Once Charlie Weis was fired, he decided to explore other options.
The quality of education, as well as the team’s defensive style, is what drew Martin, a Bay Area native, to the Golden Bears.
"He said he just feels real comfortable with the education he’s going to get," Hoerl said. "And he likes the defensive schemes that they run."
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Martin is listed as a linebacker, but given his size, may fit better as a defensive end at Cal.
In his first year at Grandview, he helped the Wolves to a 6-5 record. Martin is the No. 45-ranked recruit in Tom Lemming’s 2010 Top 100.
