If you have to pick a team of the 21st century in Arizona, you start the selection process in Chandler at Hamilton High School.
The Huskies have become a powerhouse under the watch of longtime coach Mike Woods, winning five state championships over the past 16 seasons while reaching the finals three other times. Woods has had close to 20 players drafted during that stretch with many more also finding some time at various levels of professional baseball.

And the Huskies aren't finished. After winning a state championship in 2016, they appear poised to win another one in 2017. The possible back-to-back titles would match the two straight they won in 2003 and 2004. Coach Woods has five position players returning, led by MaxPreps National Junior Player of the Year Nick Brueser, along with nearly every starting pitcher.
As a result, Hamilton begins the 2017 season as the No. 5 team in the MaxPreps Preseason Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings.
Brueser is the heavy favorite to earn State Player of the Year honors and he also has a shot at National Player of the Year as well. A Stanford commit, Brueser is ranked as one of the nation's top first basemen and is a potential high pick in the Major League Baseball Draft in June.

There, they could face the likes of national powers American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), Huntington Beach (Calif.), Orange Lutheran (Calif.) and preseason No. 1 Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
Hamilton will get a good workout heading into the NHSI, as it plays three of the top teams in Arizona over a three-day span in mid-March. The Huskies play Perry (ranked No. 6 last year), Corona del Sol (No. 4) and Mountain Ridge (last year's state runner-up) March 15-17.
