Duke has received its second class of 2012 verbal commitment this week from
Rasheed Sulaimon of
Strake Jesuit (Houston, Texas).
Sulaimon, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard, is averaging 22.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the 24-3 Crusaders. He averaged 21.5 points per game as a sophomore and is rated the No. 19 prospect in the 2012 class by MaxPreps.com.
"He can be a prolific scorer at times and can get a shot off on anyone. I've never seen anybody block his shot," Sulaimon's trainer and advisor Marland Lowe said. "He loves to guard the other team's best player. He is just the hardest-working young man you will ever see. He is a tremendous young man and the basketball part of it is just a bonus."
Sulaimon visited Durham for Wednesday's Duke-North Carolina game at Cameron Indoor Stadium and gave the news to Mike Krzyzewski and staff Thursday night prior to returning to Houston.
"He's liked Duke for a long time," Lowe said. "He wanted an opportunity to go there with his family and check out the campus and academics. He had that chance and was ready to get the process over with."
Alex Murphy, a 6-8, 200-pound wing from
St. Mark's (Southborough, Mass.), became Duke's first 2012 commitment Monday.
