Valencia and Oaks Christian are battling to keep their seasons alive when they face off in a playoff match this Friday at 7:30 PM. Valencia has flexed its offensive muscles in its last 13 matchups, so Oaks Christian has a real workout ahead of it.
Valencia didn't have too much trouble with Heritage in its last game, where Valencia won 52 - 34. Senior Connor Downs didn't have many carries in the previous game, but he had more touches this time and made them count as he ran for 116 yards and punched in two touchdowns. If you haven't heard of Downs, then you haven't been paying attention since he has loomed large in Valencia's past five games. Junior Luring Paialii got in on the action, too, by scoring three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Oaks Christian finished ahead of Upland last week by a score of 31 - 24. Junior Zach Charbonnet continued his outstanding stretch of play as he rushed for 107 yards in the win, marking his 3rd consecutive game with over 100 yards rushing. Charbonnet has also now scored at least one touchdown in the past three consecutive games. Another highlight for the team was the 365 passing yards from junior Josh Calvert.
Their wins bumped Oaks Christian to 11-2 and Valencia to 12-1. Oaks Christian and Valencia will be experiencing extra pressure in this one since they are each in the midst of a winning streak (eight wins for each). We'll see which team can handle the heat this Friday.
