Freshman running back
Sony Michel is already a wanted man.
A Pop Warner legend growing up in Florida, Michel made an impact as an eighth grader at
American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), rushing for over 1,800 yards and displaying a physical maturity and skill set that was beyond his age.
This season, Michel broke lose for 1,730 yards and 21 touchdowns on 228 carries, proving he's already capable of being a workhorse back on the high school level.
Michel also saw some reps on defense and special teams, where he scored a touchdown on an 80-yard kickoff return.
In January, MaxPreps named Michel a
U.S. Air Force Freshman All-American team, along with fellow running backs Leonard Fournette and Stanley Williams.
It hasn't taken colleges very long to catch on to the fact that Michel will likely be one of the top recruits in the class of 2014.
Michel told us that three schools have already extended verbal scholarship offers: Florida State, Miami, and Alabama. He expects to visit Florida State later this spring.
Playing for the South Florida Express, Michel should be busy on the 7-on-7 circuit this spring, and will be a preseason favorite to be the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year for the 2011 season.
