The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Independence takes on Santa Clara in the first playoff game of the year. Independence is currently on a five-game winning streak and looking to extend its dominance.
Independence has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling four) after its most recent game. It took its contest against Del Mar last week by a conclusive 27 - 6 score.
As for Santa Clara, its encounter with Wilcox two weeks ago was a 43-point stomp, but the result last week was anything but. Santa Clara won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by Cupertino 43 - 42. Senior Christopher Brown had a wowing 353 passing yards passing yards in the victory. This sound performance was nothing new for Brown, who has been a rock for Santa Clara in the past seven games. Junior Richard Corona was another big-time player for Santa Clara. He tacked on three touchdowns to Santa Clara's score.
Their wins bumped Independence and Santa Clara up to an identical 7-3. While both teams are coming off of wins, only one will triumph this week. We'll find out soon enough who that will be.
