Video: Kyle Muller highlights - Dallas Jesuit (TX)
See the Player of the Year showing his abilitiesMaxPreps 2016 Player of the Year: Kyle Muller, Dallas Jesuit
When it comes to choosing the nation's best high school baseball player, Dallas Jesuit senior Kyle Muller knows how to fill up the checklist.
Was he recognized in his own state? The Dallas Morning News picked Muller as the area's top player and both Gatorade and Perfect Game named Muller as the best player in the state.
Does he have the statistics? Muller's stats were ridiculous. Besides finishing second in the nation with 15 home runs, Muller also knocked in 52 runs and batted .398 on the season. He had two home runs in a game four times this year. On the mound, Muller was overpowering with 142 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched while posting a 9-1 record with a 0.42 ERA. For good measure, he obliterated the national record for consecutive strikeouts as he posted 33 straight strikeouts over the course of two games. He also had two no-hitters.
Is he a leader? After leading Dallas Jesuit to the Texas Class 6A final four as a junior, Muller took the Rangers all the way to the championship with a 6-2 win over Johnson (San Antonio) in the final. Muller pitched a 2-0 shutout over Langham Creek in the semifinals.
Can he play at the next level? The Atlanta Braves think so, as they selected Muller with the No. 44 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.
Thus Muller is the 2016 MaxPreps National High School Baseball Player of the Year.

MaxPreps 2016 Coach of the Year: Todd Fitz-Gerald, Stoneman Douglas
In early March, championship hopes for Stoneman Douglas took a turn for the worse. Preseason All-American pitcher Jesus Luzardo was lost for the season after suffering an arm injury that ultimately required Tommy John surgery and Stoneman Douglas was playing in one of the toughest divisions in the nation - the newly formed Class 9A in Florida.
So what did coach Todd Fitz-Gerald do? He simply led the Eagles to the greatest season in school history. The Eagles lost just one game the remainder of the season to finish 27-2 and No. 2 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
The state championship is the first baseball title in school history. Along the way, Stoneman Douglas knocked off such heavyweights as West Orange (Winter Garden), Jupiter and defending Class 8A state champion Columbus (Miami). The MaxPreps National Coach of the Year also earned Florida State Coach of the Year honors from the Florida Dairy Farmers and has a career record of 349-97.
