Both Folsom and Central have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Friday at 7:30 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Central will want to keep Folsom's offense in check as it has had no trouble moving up and down the field in its last nine games.
The MaxPreps national rankings suggested a blowout in Folsom's previous game, and that is exactly what happened. It took its contest against St. Mary's last week by a conclusive 50 - 21 score. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Kaiden Bennett, who brought his A game into the contest. He tossed the ball for 402 yards and four TDs. Bennett has been a consistent playmaker for Folsom as this was the 14th good game in a row from him. Junior Joe Ngata got in on the action, too, by scoring four touchdowns.
The match between Central and Buchanan was close at the half, but it sure didn't end that way. Central took its game against Buchanan last week by a confident 29 - 7 score. Central especially relied on junior Trent Tompkins, who ran for 100 yards and also punched in one touchdown, and senior Jevon Bigelow, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Central to 12-1 and Folsom to 14-0. Both Central and Folsom are bound to feel confident after their prior matchups, but one team's ego will take a hit. We'll find out on Friday which one when the teams meet up this week.
