The 2017 MaxPreps Preseason All-American baseball team features 30 of the top players in the country - five of whom played for a different team last year.
D.L. Hall, Mark Vientos, Alex Scherf, Jeter Downs and Ryan Vilade all have transferred for their senior seasons. Hall and Scherf are both returning to the school where they played as freshmen, Hall at Valdosta (Ga.) and Scherf at Colleyville Heritage (Texas).
Vientos and Downs, meanwhile, are two Miami-area infielders who have transferred to state powerhouses. Vientos goes from Flanagan to American Heritage (Plantation), while Downs heads to Monsignor Pace from Sports Leadership & Management.
Vilade, on the other hand, has transferred states, going from Frisco (Texas) to Stillwater (Okla.).
The preseason All-American team is chosen based on past honors (All-American, Team USA, all-state), recruiting rankings and statistical performance.

P – Trevor Rogers, Carlsbad (N.M.), 6-5, 190
Rogers could become the fourth player from New Mexico to be chosen
in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. He earned
All-Rocky Mountain Region honors from the National High School Baseball
Coaches Association after leading Carlsbad to a Class 6A state
championship. He posted a 9-2 record with a 0.71 ERA and 122 strikeouts
in just 69 innings pitched.
P – Nick Storz, Poly Prep Country Day (Brooklyn, N.Y.), 6-6, 245
One of the top
players in the state of New York for the past four year, Storz was All-State by the sports writers association last year after finishing
5-3 with a 1.88 ERA and 59 strikeouts. He also hit .306 with 24 RBIs
and three home runs.

P – Mitchell Stone, Deer Creek (Edmond, Okla.), 6-9, 240
One of the tallest pitchers in the nation, Stone led Deer Creek to the Class 6A state championship game as a junior. He earned All-State honors after a 9-1 season that included 92 strikeouts and a 0.78 ERA in 63 innings.
P – Logan Allen, University (Orange City, Fla.), 6-0, 170
An All-American since his sophomore season, Allen landed on the All-Area team by the Orlando Sentinel and was a Florida Coaches Association All-State pick. He went 9-0 with 119 strikeouts and a 0.11 ERA in 64 innings.
P – Jordan Butler, Alonso (Tampa, Fla.), 6-2, 193
And All-State selection and the Hillsborough County Player of the Year, Butler could be drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft in June. He went 11-1 last year with 102 strikeouts and a 054 ERA in 78 innings. He also hit .407 with four home runs.
P – DL Hall, Valdosta (Ga.), 6-2, 170
Considered the top left-handed pitcher in the country, Hall earned
All-Middle Georgia honors last year while helping lead Houston County
(Warner Robins, Ga.) to a state championship. Hall has transferred back
to Valdosta, where he started as a freshman. Last year, he went 6-1 with
a 1.81 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 58 innings.
P – CJ Van Eyk, Steinbrenner (Lutz, Fla.), 6-2, 185
Van Eyk was the Hillsborough County Pitcher of the Year by the Tampa Times after leading Steinbrenner to the Class 8A state championship. He went 12-1 on the mound with 130 strikeouts and a 0.77 ERA in 91 innings.
P – Brandon Kaminer, Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.), 6-1, 170
A member of the All-Broward County team by the Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel, Kaminer led Stoneman Douglas to the Class 9A state championship in Florida. He posted an 11-0 record with 90 strikeouts and a 1.28 ERA.
P – Alex Scherff, Colleyville Heritage (Texas), 6-4, 205
Scherff has emerged as a possible first-round draft pick thanks to a 96 mph fastball. He is at his third different school in four years, having transferred from Prestonwood Academy (which won a TAPPS state title last year) to Colleyville Heritage (Texas), where Scherff began as a freshman. Last year he went 10-0 with 82 strikeouts.
P – Hans Crouse, Dana Hills (Dana Point, Calif.), 6-4, 185
Although he went 5-4 last year, Crouse is a potential first-round draft pick thanks to a 97 mph fastball. He had a 1.15 ERA last year with 96 strikeouts in 73 innings.
C – Steven Williams, Deerfield-Windsor (Albany, Ga.), 6-3, 220
The Player of the Year by the Albany Herald, Williams was one of the top home run hitters in Georgia with 11 round trippers. He also had 49 RBIs and 16 doubles while batting .524.
C – Luis Campusano, Cross Creek (Augusta, Ga.), 6-0, 195
The All-Area Player of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle, Campusano batted .493 with 13 doubles, 33 RBIs and six home runs.
C – Philip Clarke, Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville, Tenn.), 5-11, 190
Headed to Vanderbilt, Clarke was All-State by the state coaches association and All-MidState by the Tennesseean. He hit .402 with 10 doubles, 31 RBIs and two home runs for the state runners-up.
1B – Alex Toral, Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 6-2, 220
Toral once was considered the No. 1 player in the Class of 2017. He will
most certainly be a first-round pick in the June MLB draft after
batting .310 with four home runs and 32 runs scored. He helped
Archbishop McCarthy to a Class 6A state championship last year and
earned All-Broward County honors by the Miami Herald.

1B – Nick Brueser, Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), 6-3, 190
One of the best players in Arizona since his sophomore season when he
earned All-State honors, Brueser ranks as one of the nation's top first
basemen. He was the state Player of the Year in Arizona by Gatorade and
the Arizona Republic after batting .442 with 47 RBIs, 13 doubles and nine
home runs.
IF – Hunter Greene, Notre Dame (SO) (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), 6-4, 205
Greene could be the first high school player chosen in the MLB Draft in
June. One of the top infielders in the nation, Greene also is valued as a
pitcher. He was a member of the Los Angeles Times and Daily News All-Area teams last year after hitting .419 with five home runs and nine
doubles. He also had a 5-3 record with a 1.63 ERA and 68
strikeouts. and possesses a fastball that's hit 96 mph.
IF – Royce Lewis, JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), 6-2, 188
The All-Area Player of the Year by the Los Angeles Times, Lewis ranks as one of the top prospects in the nation heading into the June MLB draft. He hit .429 with 21 RBIs and 42 runs scored as a junior.
IF – Mark Vientos, American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), 6-4, 190
One of the top infield prospects in the nation since his freshman year, Vientos spent his first three varsity seasons at Flanagan before transferring to American Heritage for his senior year. He batted .321 last year with 12 RBIs and a home run.
IF – Nick Allen, Francis Parker (San Diego), 5-9, 154
Considered one of the top fielding shortstops in the nation, Parker earned All-San Diego Section honors last season after batting .469 with 13 doubles and five home runs.
IF – Ryan Vilade, Stillwater (Okla.), 6-2, 190
Vilade earned All-State honors by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association after spending his junior year at Frisco. He has since moved to Stillwater (Okla.). Vilade hit .449 with 41 runs, 11 doubles and six home runs.
IF – Jeter Downs, Monsignor Pace (Miami), 6-0, 180
An All-County player by the Miami Herald the past two seasons while playing at Sports Leadership & Management, Downs is now playing for Class 5A state runner-up Monsignor Pace. As a junior, Downs hit .430 with 43 runs, 36 RBIs, 12 doubles and nine homers.
OF – Conner Uselton, Southmoore (Moore, Okla.), 6-3, 185
One of the top outfielders in the nation, Uselton earned All-State
honors by the Oklahoma City Oklahoman and was an All-Region 6 selection
by Rawlings. He hit .514 with 41 runs, 39 RBIs, 10 doubles and nine
home runs as a junior.
OF – Calvin Mitchell, Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), 6-1, 200
Mitchell earned All-Region honors by Rawlings and All-San Diego Section honors last year after finishing with a .371 average that included 26 runs scored, 41 RBIs, six doubles and 12 home runs.
OF – Kyle Jacobsen, Allatoona (Acworth, Ga.), 5-11, 170
One of the top players in Georgia, Jacobsen earned All-State honors last year thanks to a .430 average. He also had 32 RBIs, 25 runs, nine doubles and four home runs.
OF – Leguim Castillo, Lancaster (N.Y.), 6-2, 220
Castillo helped lead Lancaster to a 21-3 record last year hitting .500
with 30 runs, seven doubles and seven home runs. He earned All-State honors by
the New York Sports Writers Association and is expected to be chosen in
the early rounds of the MLB Draft in June.
OF – Jordon Adell, Ballard (Louisville, Ky.), 6-3, 205
Adell ranks as the top outfield prospect in the nation and is a
potential first-round pick in the MLB Draft in June. He batted .449 with
11 home runs and 44 RBIs last year in earning All-State honors.
OF – Cole Turney, Fort Bend Travis (Richmond, Texas), 6-1, 200
With many players returning from last year's 25-5-1 team, Fort Bend
Travis could be one of the top teams in Texas this year. Turney is a big
reason why after hitting .344 last season with a team-high 28 RBIs and
six home runs.
AP – Tanner Burns, Decatur (Ala.), 6-0, 205
Burns excelled on the mound and at the plate. He earned All-Super State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and earned Class 6A Hitter of the Year honors. He hit .472 with 13 home runs, 60 RBIs and 12 doubles, and also posted a 5-2 record with a 1.11 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.
AP – Owen Lovell, Cullman (Ala.), 6-5, 225
Lovell has been one of the top power hitters in the state since his
freshman season. He earned Alabama Super State Player of the Year honors
last year after batting .389 with 64 RBIs, 14 home runs, 15 doubles and
47 runs scored. He alsowent 7-0 with a 1.43 ERA and 59
strikeouts in 49 innings.

Danner has long been a
standout pitcher for the Oilers, but he also is a prospect at catcher, a
position where he earned All-County honors from the Orange County
Register. He hit .423 with 29 RBIs and six home runs.
